Geography - GCSE

General Information about this course:

This is a modular course which is suitable for any student who has a basic interest in local, UK and World Geography. This course will give an insight into both physical and human aspects of geography. It will also build up important skills which may develop into future employment opportunities.

You should choose this course because it will help you develop important skills which may develop into future employment opportunities. You will also study a range of topics helping you to develop your knowledge and understanding of geographical concepts and appreciate the relevance of these concepts to our changing world. It will help you appreciate the differences and similarities between people’s view of the world, its environments, societies and cultures. It will also develop you as a responsible citizen. This course counts towards the English Baccalaureate Certificate.

What will you study as part of this course?Geography

On this course you will study the following topics:

  • Volcanoes and earthquakes
  • Where do we get our water from?
  • Farming and the countryside
  • Tourism
  • Map and geographical skills
  • Climate change/sustainable development

How will I be assessed?

There are 4 areas in which you will be assessed. Three of these are written examinations (25% each) and the other will be a piece of coursework (also 25%).

What qualification will I achieve?

Geography GCSE is a highly respected qualification accepted by all colleges and employers.

What further career options and pathways are available to me after this course?

You can attend a further education college to pursue an A level in Geography, Geology or other related subjects. You can also study a BTEC in Travel and Tourism. This GSCE will be very useful towards any employment   position but in particular it is useful for careers based around leisure, travel, tourism and the Armed Forces.
