Music

The Music department consists of 1 teaching room and 3 small practice rooms. The teaching room is fully equipped with 14 full size keyboards, a full set of tuned percussion, recorders, a large selection of percussion instruments and a clavinova. The equipment enables us to provide live solo and ensemble work, both vocally and on instruments, but also computerised music through the use of a variety of music software such as Dance Ejay.

The practice rooms are used for peripatetic lessons and for rehearsals at break, lunch and after school for small ensembles. Music at KS3 is taught in ability classes, all groups have one lesson per fortnight. BTEC Music classes at KS4 have 4 lessons per fortnight. In lessons students are involved in various performing, composing and listening activities. They work on their own and in small group situations and are all encouraged to take part in extra curricular activities.

Students are regularly given the opportunity to perform in concerts. The choir have sung in church, at care homes and in assemblies.
