Lunchtime Arrangements
Lunchtime arrangements are at staggered times and students are not allowed to leave the Academy. The restaurant serves healthy and wholesome food each lunch time, however if students wish they may bring into school a packed lunch. This lunch will be eaten in the dining area and should not contain items such as crisps and fizzy drinks.
The Applied Enterprise Centre provides an extra kitchen and dining room.
Academy Restaurant
Dining facilities are provided in the Academy restaurant; this is located on the ground floor.
Students will have a supervised break in the restaurant where they can purchase various healthy snacks and drinks.
Food Glorious Food
We do listen and we are working with our catering manager to improve the quality of the food served in the restaurant. We are committed to having a healthy and nutritious menu but also believe that we can only genuinely achieve healthy eating habits in our students if we give them some choice. As such chips will be served 3 days a week from May 2006.
Going to the shops for lunch?
This is not allowed on the grounds of health and safety. We can not be responsible for the safety of your child if he or she is not on the premises. Our playground is now completed with an inner fence. In order to leave the site the students need to climb this fence, this is very dangerous and we cannot be responsible for any injuries which could easily occur. Please support us by insisting that your son or daughter does not leave the Academy site during the day.
Sweets and Drinks
We would also like your support in discouraging your child from visiting the shops on the way to school and buying sweets and sugary drinks. It is well known that the high levels of sugar and additives in these products reduce the concentration span of many children and as such has a massive negative impact on learning. I would also like your support in preventing the ‘dolly bead’ sweets on an elastic band finding their way into the Academy.
Students persist in flicking them at each other and as well as causing a mess have now caused several potential serious injuries where they have narrowly missed eyes. We have visited all shops in the immediate area and asked them to withdraw the ‘dolly beads’ from sale. I am pleased to say that almost all have been very co-operative.
Morning Breaks
All students have a 15 minute break from 10:05am to 10:20am between learning session 1 and 2. Students will only have access to the ground floor, restaurant and play ground during break. Toilets will be available on the ground floor only.
