For all students at the Academy, appropriate Careers Guidance is regarded as a priority. This is reinforced with a wide variety of printed materials and DVDs. In Years 7 to 9, Careers Education and Guidance is delivered through the Academy Programme and all students in Years 10 and 11 follow a course in Careers Education and Preparation for Working Life which is accredited by the National Open College Network. This qualification is delivered at two levels, Intermediate and Foundation, and equates to two GCSEs at Grades C and E respectively.
In Year 10, students have the opportunity to complete a Work Experience Week with a local employer or training provider. This provides one module of the Careers Education and Preparation for Working Life qualification.
All students and their parents in Years 9 and 11 have an interview with the Academy's Career Adviser and follow-up appointments are available for all who require additional support.
During the summer holidays when GCSE results become available, senior staff are in the Academy to give careers advice and to help students to consider their options.
